2014 Trax Key Fob

Hello, this may be a stupid question but does the 2014 trax key fob have a chip in it that needs to be programmed from the dealer for the security immobilization system. I asked the dealer and they couldn't give me a straight answer.

Most new cars have immobilizers I can't see why the Trax would be any different.

I found information on 2015 and 16 I'm sure the 14 has the same system.

If you need a new key you might have to buy a new fob, then have it matched to the car and cut to fit the ignition.

If you bought a new key at the chevy dealer, they could order your key using your VIN number, but I still think it would have to be cut and matched to the car.

I had to get a new key for my 2015. We need 3 sets. I bought it at the dealer and they cut the key from the VIN. The key does not need to be special ordered, they just grabbed one from a box full on the shelf. There is then a simple procedure to program the key to the car that you can do your self, it does NOT need to be done by the dealer. I do not know if the 2014 Trax is the same. But our old 2013 Malibu was the same.

To program the new fob if you have a working key.
Start the car with the old working key.
let run for about 5-10 seconds.
Shut off car and withing 15 seconds use the new key to restart the car.
Let it run for 5-10 seconds.
Shut off and your new fob will have been programed by the car.

If you lost or broke all of your keys then you will need to have the dealer reprogram for you.

You just have to make sure you are getting all the numbers required to cut the key in a way it will unlock everything since I think some cuts are for specific things... so one string of numbers for the hatch and the rest for doors and another for ignition.
