2017-2019 Chevy Trax lower-control arm recall

“04/17/2019

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT

A partial separation of the lower-control arm from the vehicle could cause the attached front wheel to toe outward, impacting the vehicle's handling and steering and increasing the risk of crash.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V312000

Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT

Summary

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Chevrolet Trax vehicles. A joint in one or both of the front lower-control arms may have been improperly welded. An improperly welded joint may break, resulting in the partial separation of the lower-control arm from the vehicle.

Remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the left and right front lower-control arms, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is A182202370.”

There is one article covering this out there, and it states that the recall affects 113,000 vehicles in the U.S. There have been two warranty claims, and the initial report was lodged in November 2018, the author wrote.

Let us know if you’ve had issues or are contacted for service!

Just saw this last night. Mine was manufactured in March 2018, so I guess I can expect a recall notice!

I spoke with my dealership and they said it covers a LOT of models not just the trax. I was actually the one that brought the recall to their attention. At this point they have no clue even on what to look out for. I had them inspect my control arms just for any obvious warping or cracks and they were good.

I am just worried if I am going down the road and blamo I get wrecked or worse hurt but if it is just the 17 to 19 model years I am ok till I get a recall notice. Someone should have been on the ball inspecting their parts do you job people this is stupid and dangerous.

It looks as though we will have to await the recall notice from GM.

I took mine in for the inspection & it failed. They said it will take 6 weeks to get the parts in and they will call me when it comes in. I asked the service tech if it was safe to drive and he said as long as I'm not off-roading in it, I'm fine. I hope it continues to transport me safely until the part comes in.

I just received a notification indicating that this recall has been extended to also include the 2015 and 2016 models.

Recall PLUS Turbo Coolant Feed/Return Lines

Scheduled an oil change and tire rotation for my 2017 Trax, when the dealership mentioned the Lower Control Arm Weld Recall. Vehicle in service at this time and verified the parts for this recall has been ordered. Also discovered turbo coolant feed line & return line leaking. GM will not cover under warranty, nor will my extended warranty cover this unexpected $850 repair. A 2 year old vehicle with 39k miles.... Is this another issue GM knows about but will not back...….

I would argue that one. That should be under power train warranty. Get it done somewhere else for less than half the price if it isn't covered.
