At some point in time, most Chevrolet Trax owners will wonder if their vehicle can tow a small trailer even though the owner’s manual states that “the vehicle is neither designed nor intended to tow a trailer.”

Forum member chief ten bears, dug around the Chevrolet UK website and found the towing capacity for the 1.4L Turbo 2014 Trax even though the USA manual advised against this.

Braked Towing capacity: 1200 kg
Un-braked capacity: 500 kg

Assuming that the trailer is from U-Haul, the smallest and lightest trailer someone can rent is a 4x7 un-braked utility trailer which has an empty weight of 630 lbs (around 286kg). That leaves around 214kg for cargo but, the math isn’t that simple.

Owner’s will still need to take into account the Trax’s axle load limits, and the gross combination weight rating which includes the Trax’s own weight plus the loaded trailer, equipment, passengers, fuel, and anything else you plan to haul or carry. Improper towing can potentially cause a lot of problems like failing brakes, broken suspensions, overheated transmissions, or blown-out tires.

It’s best to not to tow with the Trax at all, instead rent a vehicle that was designed to tow.

Engine is a 4 cylinder. Transmission is designed to go with a 4 cylinder. Even if the transmission is the same as the 6 cylinder traverse...I wouldn't tow anything with it. Even if GM said a small amount is possible.

Doesn't mean 2013-2018 are safe to tow. They may have redesigned the sub frame where the hitch attaches and brakes for 2019.
