Chevy Trax gets Top Safety Rating from IIHS

The IIHS recently tested the Buick Encore (which is the sister vehicle to the Chevy Trax). Both vehicles have been named IIHS Top Safety Picks now, and that is mostly due to a major improvement in the small overlap test.

Both vehicles received a poor rating in the small overlap test in the 2013-14 model year version. That rating improved to 'good' for this year. The Encore and Trax also got 'good' ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

And heres why they improved

However, updates to the front and side architecture (including the engine compartment, side body structure, and front suspension components) of the 2015 Encore significantly improved its performance in the test. The blue test vehicle shows a substantial improvement in the driver’s survival space, and the steering column and dashboard intrude far less into the cabin, helping improve the airbag’s effectiveness. Additionally, the side-curtain airbag deployed sooner, further improving safety. The new Encore received the IIHS's highest rating of "good" for the small overlap test.
Those are some great improvements for the front end which sure does help in a situation like this.
But seeing how the A-Pillar was compromised, it will be interesting to see how it will do in a frontal overlap test.

It did better, thats the point of the post. GM improved the structure in that area which earned it the full 5 stars...
how safe are these small vehicles really, especially compared to larger stuff?
