Drove my wife’s 2018 Trax yesterday and it has started making a clicking sound when I accelerate/push on gas pedal. The sound stops when driving if I lift my foot off the pedal and doesn’t make the clicking sound if I rev the engine in park or neutral. The harder I push the pedal the faster the clicking. Any ideas what it is?

Initially, it sounded like just a stone wedged into a tire’s tread that kept tapping per revolution. But that theory went away after re-reading that it “stops when driving if...”.

How about when turning? Maybe a CV axle?
