Our car has an electronic engine cooling fan that every now and then makes a pretty loud clicking noise that is not exactly related to engine speed. If I switch off the engine and restart it the noise goes away...at least for a little while. It doesn't matter if the A/C is on or if the car is at idle or at speed. The fan spins freely and it isn't hitting the shroud. Happens randomly. Anybody have any ideas or should I just have the fan motor replaced. Thanhs

Well, the fan bearing and bushing were so worn that the fan had a bad wobble that made it hit the shroud occasionally. It is a sealed assembly which has been ordered and will be installed in a couple of days. Pretty much what I was expecting. Car only has about 85,000 k so it seems odd that it went out so soon. At least labor here in Mexico is cheap. About 40.00 USD plus parts.
