GM issues recall for the 2015 Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore

GM has issued a recall for the 2015 Chevrolet Trax and Bucik Encore. The recall is because of a steering issue.

The problem was first reported by a Chinese supplier after testing its power-steering column assembly. Apparently some of these power-steering columns were milled incorrectly.

This issue can lead to the board failing, disabling the electronic power-steering system. A warning light would pop up no the dash, but only after the sudden failure has already occurred.

The recall campaign is limited to 2,295 units, with an estimated defect percentage of 50 percent. Technicians will inspect the steering column and replace it if necessary.

Cool to see Chevy customer service here. That is a nice touch. This is a small recall though. Probably not many people affected at all.

Always happy to help! Just answered your private message :). Let me know if you have questions.

defect percentage of 50 percent is quite a lot, something that leaves me surprised no one has reported about their Trax having this problem on this forum.
Good thing they found out about the problem sooner than later. People can get in some serious accidents if the steering was to malfunction on the highway or something.. Glad to see customer care on here as well.. Always good to see the effort put forth :)

Yes, more consumer engagement does help go a long way in getting to problems before they escalate further. Glad GM makes the effort to get out to us on the forums

Yea but the number of vehicles that were potentially affected in the first place was not that high. 50% of a low number is still a low number.
we have a 2015 Chev Trax LTZ ,the screen goes blank for short periods of time .....wondering if this is a common prob. Vin # 3GNCJTSB8FL228406
By screen do you mean the radio screen? I've had to reset my radio twice in less than a year so I would say it's a common issue. Just pull the radio fuse ( #32 ) for 10 seconds.
Radio Screen Blank

Wonder if this is similar problem experienced by some Cruze owners. Apparently GM is replacing battery ground cable because of increasing resistance in cable over time causing radio to blank out periodically and maybe turn signals no longer audibly sounding even though still working.
My VIN# still doesn't return results with either recalls.gov or safecar.gov, so I'm just hoping that Chevy has their data up to date. That is the only recall resource that recognizes my VIN. I've tried contacting Chevy, like the government websites suggest, but they don't think it's a problem and won't do anything about it. ::shrug::
I keep track of the recalls for my 2019 through the MyChevrolet app, and haven't seen anything yet. I know there's a lower control arm weld issue on some models, which prevented me from getting the copper colored Trax i had in mind.
