So I thought that it would be interesting to try to decipher how the Trax will end up performing sales-wise once it is released in the US. To do this I thought it would be best to take a look at some of the Canadian sales data that we have, and then compare that info to the state of the segment in the current American market.

Here are sales data for the Trax in its segment in Canada for August and September (I couldn't find October sales data.)

As you can see the Chevrolet Trax is leading its segment in Canada. Its closest competitor is the Buick Encore which is basically a higher end version of the Trax also made by GM. After that the closest rival really isn't that close at all, falling behind by at least 400 units in August. The Mitsubishi RVR picked up some in September however. The Subaru Crosstrek also looks like it is holding its own.

Now let's take a look at the sales data for the same segment in the US for October, where the Trax hasn't been released yet.

Similar to the Canadian market, the US market sees strong showings from the Subaru XV Crosstrek and also the Buick Encore.

I think that the big question when the Encore enters the US market will be if it can steal sales from SUbaru, or if it will cannibalize Encore sales now that people can purchase a more down market version of the same car?

How do you think the Chevy Trax will perform in the US considering how it is doing in Canada?

When i was up in Canada I seen a number of them, along with the Encore.
Canadians seem to have similar needs to those in the U.S., so I think we could very well see a response to the Trax in the U.S. that's just as positive or better.

yes but the segment is sparse. How well does TRAX Do when the mazda and honda hit the scene?
It's hard to say for sure since the Mazda and the Honda HRV are both brand new vehicles. They could be great vehicles or terrible vehicles. I think that on a design basis, the Mazda and Honda will stand up well, but the question is whether they will hold up with performance and practicality.
