Hello,

I recently bought a 2020 Trax LT AWD and I was wondering if the AWD is always on full-time running that way all the time or does it primarily run in 2WD and only activates AWD when it senses it needs it??? I heard conflicting answers going both ways from mechanics I know.

Here is your answer. The Trax's stabilitrac is what decides on the added rear wheel assist. 99.99% of the time your Trax is FWD. If the system detects slippage at low speeds it will engage the rear differential. Notice I wrote low speed. Your Trax is never an AWD above I believe 25 mph. (40kph ) Going by memory here. Now I'm not positive of these numbers, could be a few mph +/-

Hi. This is from the owners manual for my '15. Chapter 9, page 28:

If equipped, this feature transfers
engine power, as required, to all
four wheels. It is fully automatic ,
and adjusts itself as needed for road
conditions.
