Issues with auto start/stop

Hi...I am new to this forum but recently bought a used Trax. Car is a 2014 diesel and in pretty good nick with low mileage (41k km). I knew the owner so was a decent buy. No major issues and love the car. However, recently I had issues with auto start/stop. I don't like the feature and normally switch off but on the one-off occasion I forget I had some issues. Basically the car stops normally but sometimes when it restarts (either pressing the clutch or does so automatically) I hear a rough noise and the starter just keeps going and car does not start, most probably coming from the clutch/flywheel. This also happened once when I turned off the engine manually and then went to restart. I then wait a while and try again and starts normally. My guess is the clutch is on its way out as one time the wife was driving and the clutch pedal remained down. Anyone had this issue?

Thanks in advance
Gilbert

Before replacing the clutch, i would look at the starter being the source of the problem first. Your average starters weren't really designed to keep starting the car every time you stopped at a red light, so the amount of starts it has in it is a very finite number.

I've been against start/stop technology for a while now, because if we're going to try it in a non-hybrid environment it just won't have much benefit. If given the option to disable it, i would turn it off in a heartbeat. Especially with a diesel considering the engine is sipping fuel through a coffee stirrer anyway as compared to most gas engines.
My 2017 doesn't. It's also not diseil. I didn't know they had those

Hi Gilbert.
I know it was a while ago you posted this but I am new to this, I also have a Trax 2014 diesel had it from new with no problems until now. It has started doing the exact same as yours with horrendous noise and no start, also the clutch stuck down as with yours with my wife. I just wondered if you got to the cause of the problem?

Thanks
Gavin

Hello
Are you sort out the problem
I have the same issue with my Diesel Trax 2014, anyone sort this issue conclusively? If I turn off the ECO button no problem starting the car but otherwise the car does not always start the first time with the benefit of a horrible noise!
