Hi, my 2018 trax had a code of PO299 for only 2 days then it turned off. Its running rough, sluggish and I heard some ticking that made me think its misfiring. replaced the map sensor

Hi, I hv a 2018 chevy trax. Check engine light came on showing a code of PO299 for only 2 days then shut off. My car was running just fine until now. Doing the same thing with no engine light on. Sluggish, running rough, hard to accelerate. I replaced the MAP sensor. When we started it, there was alot of smoke and smelt terrible. It's still running the same. I havent had a tune up since i bought it. Could that be the problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Depending on the amount of miles, type of driving, type of fuel used, etc., This problem could be one of a bad coil, or bad fuel injector. Realize if this misfire is allowed to continue, it can and probably will ruin the catalyst. This type of problem is occurring on most vehicles that have Digital fuel injection for reasons that I will not go into. By law, the refiners of fuel are required to place "cleaners" into fuel. I really do not know if certain refiners place more or less than the federally mandated law(s). Also, it seems that with the digital fuel injection, carbon builds up on the back side of the valves. It would be smart to get this fixed asap. Have a pleasant day.
