I was thinking of
Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring A/S 215/60R17 96H BSW Tires
Would this configuration work?
Also regarding rims I found some on tirerack.com it says for size 17x7 it has an offset of +40mm. What is this offset and what does it mean?
Also if I were to use 16" rims could I use 16x7 with the factory continental tires? Would 7" be too wide of a rim?

Thanks.

Would this 215 wide tire have a great effect on gas mileage and about what psi air pressure should I probably keep the tires at?

Offset in mms is the amount that the center of the rim is from the outside. 40mm means the center is more towards the outside by 40 mm. This is acceptable on the Trax.

A 215 is only 10mm wider ( less than 1/2" ) Minimal effect. I put 235s on mine with no noticeable effect.
