Hello everyone,

Sorry if this isn't in the correct place, I've had my Trax for over a year so far and truly enjoy getting this vehicle in and around the city without sacrificing size and mobility. I bought it used and recently had to change the brakes and stock stereo but asides from that I haven't ran into any major issues per se.

For those who have owned their Trax longer, just out of curiosity how has the maintenance been? Anything to look out / prevent for the future?

Thank you in advance!

My 17.. The only problem I've had is making car payments. Lol I hate it. But otherwise it's been a great car with no issues.

I'm interested in your radio change.

Haha I feel you, but I agree I'm having a blast with the car as well, its comfortable brought me to and from a few road trips. My radio went out recently but I had been planning on switching to a carplay unit anyhow and decided to get it done sooner rather than later.

I posted some pictures here, having a blast with it so far

Only thing have problem with ours is the driver side adjustment, it stuck in the furthest position back, I'm ok with this since I'm a tall person, but my wife don't like it she's a little shorter than I am....ours has 58000 some miles on it and we bought it new.....payments a little higher than I wanted on it but hasn't been a problem making, not yet anyways been working good here...

I have a '15 LT AWD. The 1st issue I had was self induced. I changed the plugs and didn't torque #1 enough. That fried the #1 ignition coil. All 4 coils come as 1 unit. (Part # 2519862 $177.20 at the dealer, plus $127 for installation/labor). The plug, of course, was not damaged. The 2nd issue is the vehicle immobilizer light. This came on twice; once when temperature about -10F, the other time about 30F. Both times the light did not come on when I shut the engine off, then restarted it. There are a couple of threads here about that. Service advisors at the dealership I visited about this think it is probably a communication issue, but there is an outside chance of something else (and they can't check for a code if the light isn't on). This isn't Speedy Gonzales, but it fits my needs and I like it.

We had a problem with part of the steering assembly. Water would get in and freeze (during winter) and you couldn't turn the steering wheel. I'd have to give it a hard turn and you'd hear it crack and could then turn the wheel. Fortunately it was covered under warranty. The Trax is a pretty sweet little SUV I'd say overall. My #1 gripe is the gas mileage on long trips. We previously had a 2014 Dodge Avenger that would get between 27-28 mpg on our family vacations to Florida. I expected our 2017 Trax Premier to get close to that. Nope. We just drove from IL to Florida and back and averaged 23.6 mpg. This was with 4 people, full of luggage, roof rack, etc. We were also going 80 mph for half this drive. I guess I shouldn't complain but I just was hoping for more. Other than that the Trax has been nice.

The only problem I’ve encountered with my 2016 Trax is finding replacement tires. It’s an odd size that not every place carries.
What size tiers dose your car take? mine is 205/70/16 and there are like 4 tire options for that size however 205/65/16 also fit and there are a lot for that size! you can usually change the number a little and your options will change a lot! You can talk to someone at a discount tire and they will tell you all your options for your car that will fit.

I just bought a 2020 trax so I obviously don't have this issue but I also own an 08 Cadillac CTS that also did this, every morning when I would be about to leave to work I would try to push the adjustment switch forward just to see if anything would happen, to the point that it became part of my daily routine and 1.5 weeks worth of this it randomly started working again that was 4 years ago and I still own an operating seat in it today lol just something to try being that GM is horrible about glitchy electronics. Otherwise it could be a faulty switch, motor is too weak or even something stuck in the track in which could have also caused the two previous things as well. If you get bored one day and feel like resetting all of your presets you could also try to pull your battery cable of for a bit to maybe reset it if it is a glitch. 🤷‍♂️

This past Sunday, water pump went out on our 2019 Chevy Trax, not a cheap repair at the shop, but didn't no anyone else to do this, but anyways it's fixed at 120300 miles on it now...

Trax is a taller CUV to begin with, thus roof rack would penalize mileage.
