Because they are making most of their cake from SUV sales, so why not another SUV for even more cake ;)

SO does passenger cars include sedans? I am guessing so.

It makes sense that GM would invest more in SUVs since they are selling better. Seems like they should have caught onto this earlier and released the Trax sooner in the US though.
makes sense, might as well expand in a market they're doing well in already.
Across the industry it's interesting seeing how companies are developing more and more SUVs. They are really having to split hairs in order to make new models that are differentiated from other models.

Yeah it's a tough one.
Big risk but if done right they can have a big impact and gains too.
Companies have been having some failures too, but I guess that is to be expected. I don't think that every single new model of SUV that we have seen coming out in recent times is going to stick around for another generation. There will be some that just don't make sense in hindsight.
Those failures are part of their successes, at least with them they learn what doesn't work and what things they offer which people respond to well at.
its a chicken vs the egg thing. Are companies selling more CUVs becasue people want CUV's or are they selling more CUV's because they offer more CUV's? I think its the latter simply because CUV's are classified as light duty trucks which gives the manufacturers leaway with CAFE ratings...
Koops got it right, the SUV/CUV has been the demise of the wagon/family sedan. They play up the safety angle, they get a break on CAFE and they have larger margins on them. talk about a win win win situation!

light duty trucks..... that was probably years ago when they were truck-based.

Good point, it's almost as if people are seeing these and then considering it, not so much that they're demanding them, maybe a bit more now that more people are getting up to speed with it all.
