I'm wanting to put a new set of tires on my 2017 Trax and I like the looks of a wider tire like a 50 will they fit under the fender well and does anyone know if they will rub or should they work alright? or do I need to just go with a set of 60's

You have it all wrong. The width of the tire is determine by the first number. A 235 is 30mm wider than a 205. So the tire you mention will not run and isn't recommended for your Trax. Then the second number refers to the height of the tire wall. For example a 50 is 50% of the tire width. So on mine I installed 235/60-16 and my speedometer is still correct and recommended. They don't rub and look nice. They are over an inch wider. A 205 is about 8 inches wide where a 235 is a bit over 9 inches.
