OEM+ Modification, Part Two (Extendable Sun Visors)

So, my second OEM+ modification is to the sun visors. As we know, GM decided to not include extendable visors in the Trax....so I did some digging. Again.

Turns out that the visors from the Chevrolet Bolt EUV will bolt right up. No pun intended, there. I'm sure other models will fit, most likely from the Cruze, Volt, etc., but as we don't have provisions for lighted mirrors, I went with the Bolt EUV visors. They are covered in the same material as our gray headliners, so technically they could be dyed to match the RS2 headliner. Here are the prices and part numbers:

Driver side, 42751378 $72.39
Passenger side, 42751380 $69.59

You'll need:

Bit driver with a T15 socket
Trim removal tool (make sure it's clean so you don't mark up the headliner or visor)
1/4" blade screwdriver

Time to install takes about 10 minutes total. Again, Standard Internet Fix-it Warning applies: This is your car and your choice to do this, you mess it up and it's on you.

1. Using the trim tool, remove the round trim piece from the base of the visor, being careful not to gouge the headliner.

2. Once the trim piece has been loosened:

3. You'll need to "twist" the trim piece to slide it over the visor rod:

4. Now, using the Bitdriver with the T15 Torx bit, remove the two screws. Do NOT pull down the visor after removing them...there are two more steps.

5. At the top of the photo below, you can see two tabs at the 12 o'clock position and two at 3 and 9 o'clock. Gently put downward pressure on the visor then use the 1/4" bladed screwdriver to move the tabs at 12 o'clock towards the bar between them. (as a side note, I suppose a very small pair of needle nose pliers could be used on this tab to "pinch" them together, your tools, your call).

You'll see a white tab in the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, move that tab toward the pivot point. Once you've done that, gently pull down on the visor. If there is resistance, recheck your tabs. Making sure everything is loosened, pull the visor straight down and out. There may be a "click" or other noise when it lets go.

Here is a pic of the tabs at 12 o'clock (note how they're like a push fastener)

6. Inside the opening in the headliner there is a white disk with holes that line up with the screw holes and the tabs, I forgot to take a photo but kinda like this:
(Can't seem to post this one....)
7. Line up the screw holes and tab slots, then push the new visor up into position, engaging the push-pin fully. The visor will hang there long enough to reinsert the screws (the new visors come with screws installed).

8. Screw them in fully, then snap the cover on (remember it has to twist over the rod).

Voila! You now have extendable sun visors that match the cloth headliner. Woo hoo.

Hey, I just bought a 2025 Trax with the problem but when I bought it, it had some minor roof damage and had to go to the shop. The loaner they gave me is a 2023 Equinox with a visor that extends, it's the same color and looks like it will fit my Trax. When I go to the shop tomorrow I am going to find out. If it is interchangeable I'll let ya all know.
Awesome. Let us know!

I'm waiting for the work to be done on my roof, then I will order it and see if it fits but looking at the pics it should. They are asking 110 for it but the dealer will get me it for 80, I'll let ya'll know in about a week or so!😁
