True, there's only one engine option: the 1.4 turbo.
It certainly is not a speed monster. Turbo power only kicks in at around 4000 rpm.
In automatic (D) gear it is sluggish, not much kick-down accelleration. In Manual (M) you will notice you can step on it's tail but don't forget to push the + button to shift (I tend to forget to do that in my excitement and the engine has no trouble getting high revs)
It does have high torque. Getting up a slope does not need shifting, only pressing the accelerator pedal further down.

With the hills we have and the speed limits (60 KM/H) it stays below 2000 rpm. I try to stay on the same speed up hill as before the hill (easy read with digital display). Sometimes it shifts a gear up but it tries to stay below 2000 rpm. On the highway when doing 100 km/h it shifts into 6th gear and engine is still revving under 2000 rpm. I guess thats why it's so economic.

I don't know how the transmission behaves when towing a small trailer, it probably shifts earlier into higher gear. You can also use the manual shift when towing. Although the car is not designed to tow anything there are hitches available. I have a 2013 Curt hitch under it. Unfortunately Curt could not get their hands on a 2014 model so they don't have a T-connector wire package for it. Curt has other wire packages available but they will have to cut into the car's wire, which I don't like.

We have a 2013 with 50000 Kms and in the last month it seems to have lost some power. Tried different grades of gas and different suppliers, new air filter and new fuel filter. It happened all of a sudden. It seems to have a hard time holding highway speed (105-115 km/her), especially noticeable with cruise set. It will loose a couple Kms and if anymore will downshift and slowly get back to set speed. Any thoughts? Still under warranty, so would like some insight before we take it to dealer. Thanks!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys! The check engine light came on about 10 days ago while my wife was heading to the city. It was not making much power and when climbing out of a valley it downshifted to 4th instead of 5th like it usually does(4000 rpm instead of 3000). When we took it to the dealer it turned out to be the turbo. Thank god for warranty! Seems to be a problem with condensation. Strange for we farm and it's 15minutes from town at highway speeds. You would think the moisture would burn/dry out. Anyways, they said they had issues with the turbo and ours was not the first. Living in the prairies and the cold winters may not help the issue. Hope this helps. I also hope this gets addressed at GM or there could be a lot of trax/encores getting traded off when warranty is up. Good thing we got extended warranty at time of purchase.

I have exactly the same issue as Boondocker. I have had to replace the Turbo once. I lost power and brought it to the dealership. They said the warranty wanted me to continue to drive the Trax after the engine code was reset. I drove it for another 50 km and it had the same issue. It was 4 days to repair the vehicle. Now it is doing the same thing again. This time it is intermittent. I dropped my speed from 100km/hr to 80km/hr and it seemed to reset something. I am waiting for it to happen again and with an engine code so they can see it happening. My wife also took a video of the spedometer this time. Unless GM comes out with a fix I will not be keeping this vehicle.

When my TRAX was 2 weeks old, a mysterious dent, like a crease, appeared in the hood, near the windshield. It was repaired 3 times, because it kept coming back. A dent repair guy said he had never seen a dent come back in 10 years of dent repair. After 3 months of wrangling with GM Oshawa Customer Care, they finally agreed to replace the hood. But they made it clear it had nothing to do with a defect, it was strictly a good will thing. Mine was the only one that had this problem.

Not a Chevrolet. I am fed up with their overpriced tin cans. For my next Vehicle, ill probably go back to Japanese vehicles or maybe Ford. Before 2007 I always bought Honda's or Acura vehicles, back when you could lease a vehicle for 3/4 years.

Yeah I agree.
I liked my Nissan Xterra a lot but the service sucked. The rear end went after 160,000 km. we found out the hard way about their axel seal issues. I would buy another one but have it serviced and documented better on paper the issues with it.
I have always liked Honda
Was looking toward Subaru but I'm not sure..

Hi Hijacker, I looked into Mazda unlimited and the warranty is the same as others except there is no limit on km within the time frame of the usual warranty. So if you put on a lot of miles it is worth it to buy if you don't your still limited to the product quality in the long run. I don't care for Mazda or Mitsubish enough to buy into the warranty gimmick. It still boils down to their service. Westlock Chev has always treated the best when it comes to service. They are awesome and keep me coming back.
